Ireland kickoff, giving it straight to Roy Keane in the middle of the Irish half. Long ball up to Finnan on the right wing is nodded clear for a throw in by Sagnol. Throw in taken by Carr just inside the French half, Dacourt and Miller jump for it, Dacourt wins in the air giving the ball to Zidane to his side. Playing safe and for possesion, Zidane gives it to Silvestre behind him. Silvestre takes his time before passing a long ball to Makalele, Makalele heads it back to Desailly, Desailly gives the ball to Sagnol. Sagnol brings the ball out a bit up to the half way line and gives a hard long ball to Pires down the wing. Pires controls the ball, and passes it to the centre to Dacourt, closing in on the penalty area. Dacourt passes out to Zidane to his side, Zidane lets it run setting up Makalele for a clear chance of a cross with the inch perfect dummy, confusing the opponents. Makalele surges down the line taking it straight to the byeline, and takes it inwards, having the ball at the side of the box free. Slight chip into the centre of the box, Saha flicks it on with his head to the far post, Trezeguet with the header at the far post.
IRELAND 2-3 FRANCE- Brilliant team goal. No doubt one made by Zidane´s dummy to Makalele but built up perfectly.

Knowing that they have just ten minutes to get a goal back or accept defeat from the silver goal rule, the Irish go on an all out attack. Carr with the ball on edge of the French area, pass out to the side to Finnan, first time cross by Finnan is headed away by Desailly only as far as Miller. Miller passes out to Reid on the left. Reid tries to dash past Makalele but is stopped in his tracks, tripped up violently. Reid goes down and the whistle is blown for a freekick just inside the French half. Freekick taken by Reid long and high into the box, punched clear by Barthez, Zidane clears away.

Ireland keep attacking in numbers, Duff with the ball having roamed into his own half, just to the right. Duff passes short to Miller behind him and makes a run to the right hand side more forward, Miller gives him the ball straight away with a through ball and Ireland break away, Duff touches the ball ahead of him and is one on one with the keeper but is too wide to shoot. He passes it to an incoming Keane in the centre, it´s too hard and Keane doesn´t reach it in time.

Reid for Ireland just inside the French half, long ball down the line to Robbie Keane who is wider than usual, Keane has to battle with Thuram to get through but can´t so passes into the centre to Roy Keane. Roy uses his strength to muscle past Silvestre to get an opening, shot by Keane on the very edge of the box in the centre.
IRELAND 3-3 FRANCE- Magnificent. Goal glut in the final in Silver goal, Keane´s hard work with a powerful shot paying off. Not the prettiest of goals but they all count.

The game seems to be at a stalemate, neither team wanting to ruin their work and lose out to silver goal. Carr passes to Finnan who waits up, Finnan back to Cunningham in defence. Cunningham to Roy Keane the goal scorer and hero of the moment, Keane to Reid, who gives it back to O´Brien. O´Brien kicks the ball long and hard away and upfield and the referee looking at his watch blows his whistle for half time of Extra Time.
